Antique Fountain Pens
The first practical fountain pen was patented by Lewis Waterman in 1884. Fountain pens were the first kind of pens to be used by men. However, the oldest surviving fountain pen belonged to a Frenchman named M.Bion dated to 1702. Antique fountain pens are prized possessions and are collector's items as they are extremely unique. Most of the antique pens are very expensive as they are very rare and are not easily available in the market. Antique fountain pens as a result of their age need special care and handling techniques. These pens usually have ink filling mechanisms and differ greatly from the modern fountain pens.
The cost of these antique fountain pens depends greatly on whom they belonged to and what material they are made up of. Other factors like the quality of the nib and the material used for the nib also help determine the price. In case, the nib is made of gold or silver, the prices automatically rises up a great deal. As most of these vintage pens have a history behind them, their prices rise accordingly as the demand becomes too high. In spite of being expensive, these pens are very popular amongst people who enjoy writing with fine pens and who have a passion for collecting pens belonging to different periods. The prices of these pens also depend on the case in which they are kept. If the cases are made of gold or silver or some high quality metal and are hand crafted, then the prices tend to be quite high.
These rare fountain pens are not sold at wholesale outlets and are usually found in flea markets or old curio shops. One can purchase antique fountain pens through the special dealers dealing in antique pieces. Various websites also offer a range of vintage antique fountain pens and through a good search; one can purchase them at strikingly low prices.

Home Decorations and Home Accents
Evolution of kitchen:
In the prehistoric times the houses in Greece were commonly of the atrium-type and the rooms were arranged around a central courtyard. In such types of homes, a covered but otherwise open patio served as the kitchen. In the early days of Roman Empire, as the common folk in cities often had no kitchen of their own they used to cook in large public kitchens. The early medieval European longhouses had an open fire under the highest point of the building. The first identified stoves in Japan date about from the same time and these stoves are named as kamados and they were typically made up of clay and mortar. In wealthier homes an automated system for a rotating spit for roasting invented by Leonardo da vinci was used.
Next comes the Industrialization followed by Rationalization and Technicalization.
Industrialization:
Due to the advancement in the technologies industrialization not only brought major changes but also social changes to the kitchen.
Rationalization:
The trend to mounting gasification and electrification continued at the turn of the 20th century and the work processes were attempted to be streamlined in industries.
This forms the phase of rationalisation.
Technicalization:
The idea of standardized dimensions and layout developed for the Frankfurt kitchen took hold and the concept was refined in the "Swedish kitchen" using unit furniture with wooden fronts for the kitchen cabinets.
Types of Kitchen:
The various forms of kitchen are as follows:
Single file kitchen
Double file kitchen
L-kitchen
U-kitchen
Block kitchen
Designing of kitchen:
The most essential mode of kitchen is designing. All of us who follow the trends in decoration and design are well aware of the vogue for mega-sized kitchens than the ordinary ones. There is nothing against these grand spaces, but it always warms our heart especially the design sensibilities to visit small kitchens that sparkle with both efficiency and style.
Some of the things that we have to do for getting more efficiency in a small place are nothing but renovating without expansion. The steps that are to be followed are as follows:
Define the space:
A small kitchen cannot serve too many functions. For instance, eliminating or moving the junk drawer, serving the kitchen as a catchall for bills, trash mail, homework assignments and odds and ends. If our goal is to make it a cooking center, concentrate only on that goal and if possible allocate some seating arrangements even if it's just a couple of tall stools pulled up to a counter for guests. The phrase that has to be remembered is that a lonely cook will be an unhappy cook.
Open shelving:
Use a combination of fitted, built-in storage pieces with unfitted, pieces and open shelving. While standard kitchen cabinets may make good use of space, top-to-bottom built-ins can often make a small kitchen feel boxy and claustrophobic. Use closed cabinets underneath counters and, just like the hip restaurants of today, utilize unlock shelving, storage bars, hooks and pot racks on top. Open shelves also force the cook to be tidy and neat, and to eliminate non-essential items from view. The hoax of the great designer is creating the sense of more light and air.
Clear counter surfaces:
If the surface area is limited do not park the microwave, toaster and coffeemaker on the counter. Instead of that keep them on a movable industrial cart or in a pantry cupboard. Do we really need all those appliances? If suppose the bread machines are to be used occasionally, store it between uses in a bottom cabinet, a countertop appliance garage or in a storage area outside the kitchen.
Think outside the box:
If we are scheming a kitchen to meet our desired cooking requirements, then think through all the steps and make the kitchen fit our needs.

Modern Antique Bathroom Vanities - If It's Modern, How Can It Be Antique?
In the realm of bathroom vanities, there exists what are commonly referred to as antique bathroom vanities. In most cases (and removing ourselves completely from the vintage swap meets and antique shops) these "antique" vanities are not necessarily antique in age, but rather antique in design. Modern antique bathroom vanities, when crafted well, possess the common lines, shapes, and accents of old-world craftsmanship. Victorian-age designs are commonly seen in antique bathroom vanities made today. Their solid wood construction and heavily carved facades bring you back to a time when woodcarving was a master craft and elegantly etched leaves, vines, and accents were what the public loved.
The Benefits of Modern Antique Bathroom Vanities
Although modern antique-fashioned vanities may not have the true age to go along with their classification, antique bathroom vanities of today bring with them heightened function and durability. Bathroom vanity design (as well as internal plumbing) has come along way since the old days of kings and queens. Today, antique vanities come complete with flawless sink and faucet integration and in many cases excel in function when compared to modern run-of-the-mill bathroom vanities. Modern antique bathroom vanities also offer the opportunity to reinvent your bathroom from top to bottom. Just imagine draping your bathroom in old-world beauty, incorporating rich, vivid colors, tapestries, and pictures that would be fit for a Victorian emperor (including Queen Victoria herself).
However, there are some purists who when they say they want "antique" they mean they want an "original". It is possible to get a hold of a true antique bathroom vanity, but what you may get in originality, you're lacking in functionality. True antique vanities are more of a novelty and often require complete restoration and updating to be functional within the home. That's not to say that truly original vanities from our past don't look great in bathrooms today. In fact, they can be exceptional conversation pieces and add 100% originality to your bathroom. The one difficulty with these vanities is in most cases, you'll end up paying much more to purchase and then restore a true antique bathroom vanity then it would cost you to purchase a modern bathroom vanity fashioned after antique styles and designs.
So is it Better to be "Old" or "Old-School"?
The bottom line is whether you go true antique (old) or antique-styled (old-school), the choice is completely up to you. Bathroom vanity manufacturers are producing ornate and exquisite antique-styled vanities that look much like the styles of old. Of course their true age is more modern than antique, but when you compare the option of buying old and spending to make it new, you discover that it's more practical to buy new and designed to look "antique".

Commercial Ceiling Mount Vandal Proof Lighting Fixtures
| |||||||
In areas where heavy traffic or equipment use can inadvertently break or damage overhead lights, commercial vandal proof ceiling mount lighting fixtures offer a form of lighting whose higher impact and scratch resistance makes them harder to break, dislodge, or tamper with. Commercial ceiling mount vandal proof light fixtures offer schools, public buildings, shopping malls, and indoor apartments and condominiums a long-term, reliable source of lighting that is needs only rare, occasional maintenance. There are four distinct lines of commercial vandal proof ceiling mount fixtures, each consisting of different lamping and design features that differentiate its special value as being optimal for specific environments and/or budgets. Fluorescent lights combine energy efficiency with vandal proof fixture durability and performance. The commercial grade ceiling mount fixtures ship with 26, 32, or 42-watt compact commercial grade fluorescent lamps included. These ceiling mount vandal proof fixtures come in either white or bronze finishes to match ceiling decor, and they are UL listed for all regions of the United States, including extremely humid areas along the Gulf Coast and extremely dry desert areas in the Southwest. Each fixture includes two forms of tamper proofing. A Torx-head center pin secures the unit itself in place, and slotted Phillips head stainless steel screws fasten the aluminum housing firmly in place to the ceiling. The refractor is made from injection-molded polycarbonate, and is designed for maximum structural strength. Heavy gauge cold rolled steel with high reflectance baked white enamel makes up the reflector and the backplate. These lights are ideal for smaller school districts and civic buildings in small towns on tight budgets. High-pressure sodium lamps offer a compact, high output form of vandal proof lighting in cramped quarters. As they produce light by passing an arc through sodium gas mixed with other elements, both their lumens per watt output and physical bulb life are the highest producers in our selection of ceiling mounted vandal proof lighting fixtures. The high-pressure sodium fixtures deliver a reliable 24,000 hours of lamp life in almost every situation and lighting environment. Like their fluorescent equivalents, they are designed to optimally perform in damp and wet areas as well as dry regions of the country. We have two models available from which to choose: a low wattage model and a high wattage model. Both come in a similar physical design consisting of die cast aluminum housing with a transparent polycarbonate refractor. Our high-wattage model houses 100 or 150 watt High Pressure Sodium bulbs and is often used for outdoor security lighting. The low wattage model serves as a great overhead source of bright, energy saving light for indoor light ideal for workrooms, warehouses and even garages. All high pressure sodium vandal proof lights come with lamps included, and customers can choose when they order which bulb sizes they desire, or ask one of our experts for a recommended wattage based on fixture placement, usage, and purpose. Incandescent ceiling mounted vandal proof light fixtures offer commercial establishments a sturdy fixture with a reflector made from die formed heavy gauge steel in white finish with clear polycarbonate refractor. Bulbs are not included with these fixtures, but two 75-Watt A-19 incandescent bulbs with medium base measurements can be ordered in conjunction with these units and installed wherever needed. These are good solid light producers for high ceiling areas where glare and bright light will not present a distraction. Commercial metal halide lamps in vandal proof ceiling mounted fixtures include the same essential specifications of our other models, but they offer an additional point of value through a quartz restrike option that provides immediate illumination in case of momentary power failure. Our high voltage halide lamps offer 150 or 175 watts of power with a lamp life of 10,000 hours. In situations where the lights do not have to stay on for long hours, but nonetheless produce superior visibility, they offer great benefit. Many commercial clients use halide high-pressure sodium vandal proof lights for adjunct outdoor security lighting. Indoor low voltage equivalents offer the same essential value package with lower wattage and a longer lamp life of up to 15,000 hours. Article Tags: fixtures, lighting, proof
